Brooks Mendell, Ph.D.
President & CEO
Dr. Brooks Mendell has twenty-five years of consulting, operating, and research experience in the forest products and timber industries. His experience includes roles in harvest operations and procurement with Weyerhaeuser, in management consulting with Accenture, and as a faculty member in forestry and finance at the University of Georgia. A Fulbright Scholar in Uruguay, Dr. Mendell founded Forisk in 2004. He has broad domestic and international experience supporting small businesses, Fortune 500 corporations and public organizations. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Forest History Society. He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees at MIT, an MBA at the University of California at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Forest Finance at UGA.
Amanda Hamsley Lang
COO & Vice President of Client Services
Amanda Lang is a Partner and, as COO and VP of Client Services, leads all of Forisk’s operating, project management and FRQ Subscriber Support activities. She leads Forisk’s bioenergy and capital investment research program, and she teaches workshops and delivers presentations related to tracking and evaluating wood bioenergy markets and forest industry capacity. Prior to working with Forisk, she interned with International Paper and conducted award-winning forestry operations research at the University of Georgia under Dr. Dale Greene. In 2016, she was named one of the UGA Alumni Association “Forty Under Forty”, and was named the Warnell “Young Alumni of the Year.” She serves on the Georgia Forestry Association Board of Directors. Ms. Lang received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia.
Shawn Baker, Ph.D.
Vice President of Research
Dr. Shawn Baker is the Vice President of Research at Forisk Consulting. In this role, Shawn leads Forisk’s entire research portfolio in addition to continuing his forest operations research in the US and Canada. He also supports delivered wood cost projections for the Forisk Research Quarterly (FRQ) and for custom timber market studies. Shawn has over 15 years of forestry and operations research experience. Prior to joining Forisk, Shawn conducted and coordinated forest operations research at the Center for Forest Business at the University of Georgia under the direction of Dr. Dale Greene. Previously, he conducted forestry research and internships with Virginia Tech, the US Forest Service, Mead Paper Company, Stone Container and the Virginia Department of Forestry. An award-winning researcher and frequent presenter at forest industry conferences, Shawn earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in forestry from Virginia Tech and a PhD from the University of Georgia.
Analyst, Project Manager
Andrew Copley is an Analyst and Project Manager with Forisk Consulting. In this role, he provides analytic support to clients and projects, and manages research related to wood bioenergy and forest industry trade. Prior to joining Forisk, Andrew served as a consultant with Green Circle Bio Energy and a research assistant with Enviva. In addition, he provided research and analyzed forest industry prices for Timber-Mart South. Mr. Copley has an undergraduate degree in Economics and International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Science in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia.
Justin Tyson is a Senior Analyst with Forisk Consulting. In this role, he supports requests and projects with Forisk Research Quarterly subscribers and conducts analysis related to forest industry operations and capital investments. Prior to joining Forisk, Justin worked as a forest analyst with Rayonier, a harvest manager with Weyerhaeuser, and as a pest management specialist with Bartlett Tree Experts. He also served as a County Extension Coordinator in Georgia to provide educational programming and advice on agriculture and natural resources. In addition to his work experience, Justin is a certified forester and conducted forestry research in Brazil. Mr. Tyson earned a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of Georgia.
Heather Clark serves as Forisk’s Business Manager, and she is also the Director of the Forisk Continuing Education Program and a Forisk shareholder. Ms. Clark manages Forisk’s office, supports sales and marketing activities and assists Forisk subscribers. She joined Forisk in 2011 after four years of business management and customer service experience in the aviation industry. Ms. Clark earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Georgia.

Bob Abt, Ph.D.
Dr. Bob Abt is Professor of Forestry at NC State University and an expert in fiber supply estimates for wood basins in the US South through his research associated with the Sub Regional Timber Supply (SRTS) model. SRTS simulates the impact of market-level demand assumptions on future forest supplies in a market. Forisk partners with Dr. Abt to model scenarios and rank markets for various procurement strategies and demand scenarios, and publishes research related to future forest supplies. He received his B.S. from Georgia Tech, an M.S. from the University of Tennessee, and his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley.
Jack Lutz, Ph.D.
Dr. Jack Lutz, Principal and Forest Economist of the Forest Research Group, has over 25 years of timberland investment, research and consulting experience with FourWinds Capital Management, James W. Sewall Company, Hancock Timber Resource Group, the University of New Hampshire (UNH), Container Corporation of America, Tennessee River Pulp & Paper, and the USDA Forest Service. Since 2015, Dr. Lutz has supported analysis of the forest industry, timberland markets and hardwood forecasts for the Forisk Research Quarterly (FRQ). He received a B.S. degrees in forestry and business from UNH, an MBA from Northwestern, and a Ph.D. in Natural Resources from UNH.
