Brooks Mendell, Ph.D.
President, VP Research
Dr. Brooks Mendell has twenty years of consulting, operating, and research experience in forestry, finance and the timber and bioenergy industries. Dr. Mendell leads Forisk’s research and forecasting program. His experience includes roles in harvest operations and procurement with Weyerhaeuser, in management consulting with Accenture, and as a member of the forestry and finance faculties at the University of Georgia. A Fulbright Scholar in Uruguay, Dr. Mendell has published over sixty articles and three books on topics related to timber markets and REITs, forest business and operations, wood bioenergy, and communication skills. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Forestry Association. He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA at the University of California at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Forest Finance at the University of Georgia.
Amanda Hamsley Lang
Partner, Senior Consultant
Amanda Lang leads Forisk’s bioenergy research program and is the Managing Editor of Wood Bioenergy US. As part of her research, Ms. Lang speaks with dozens of wood-using projects, researchers and contacts on a monthly basis. In addition to managing consulting projects, she teaches workshops and delivers presentations related to tracking and evaluating wood bioenergy markets. Prior to working with Forisk, she interned with International Paper and conducted award-winning forestry operations research at the University of Georgia under Dr. Dale Greene. She is the chairman of the Young Alumni Committee at the Warnell School for Forestry and Natural Resources. Ms. Lang received BS and MS degrees in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia.
David Garrett supports Forisk’s tracking and analysis of wood and timber markets in North America. In addition, he contributes to in-house research related to the Forisk Forecast. Prior to joining Forisk in 2013, his work experience included graduate research at the Plantation Management Research Cooperative and technician roles at a fish hatchery and the Ocmulgee National Monument. Mr. Garrett earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia.
Continuing Education Coordinator; Customer Relations
Heather Clark serves as the Coordinator for the Forisk Continuing Education Program and leads the research for the Forisk Timberland Owner List. Ms. Clark manages Forisk’s office, supports sales and marketing activities and assists Forisk subscribers. She joined Forisk in 2011 after four years of business management and customer service experience in the aviation industry. Ms. Clark earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Georgia.

Mr. Danny Hamsley, President of Hamsley Forestry, has 32 years of forest industry experience with P&G and Weyerhaeuser. In addition to direct on-the-ground experience in all phases of wood procurement and forest management, his relevant managerial and leadership experience includes state-level (Georgia), regional (South) and corporate (US-wide) roles in wood procurement, the development of wood procurement strategies, and timberland acquisitions and divestitures. Danny’s analytical work includes domestic and international benchmarking of wood procurement systems and effectiveness. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Forest Business from the University of Georgia.
