5. Tariffs on Imports from Canada? Tell Me More!
While ‘rage bait’ was Oxford’s word of the year, there is no doubt that ‘tariffs’ was not far behind. In his February 2025 blog post, Brooks Mendell provided some context for the role of tariffs and their relative policy importance to markets for housing, lumber, and timber.
6. What Would be Required for the U.S. to be Self-Sufficient for Softwood Lumber?
Amongst all of the tariff chatter in 2025 (see #5 above), Amanda Lang took a deeper dive in the Q2 2025 edition of the Forisk Research Quarterly (FRQ) to explore whether the U.S. could realistically replace Canadian lumber imports – and what it would take to get there.
